Vape Pen Cartridge No Airflow?

A Redditor asked this question  over two years ago: "I am going to preface this with, I am brand new to vaping and this sub. I am having in airflow problems with my vape pen. The battery and atomizer are both heating up, so I don't think it's a battery connection problem. I have cleaned the battery connections and the mouthpiece, and the mouthpiece is not clogged. But there is no airflow coming out of the mouthpiece when I try to use it, so I think it's some sort of airflow issue with the atomizer. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can fix this?"

To this day, "vape pen cartridge no air flow" continues to receive over 2 thousand searches on Google per month. This is why we've set out to collect all the questions to this question in one blog post for you (even though the chances of you having "vape pen cartridge no airflow" issues with FLOW are slim to none).

Q: My vape pen cartridge has no airflow, what do I do?

A1: Take a small needle or something similar, and poke it in the airflow holes, might just be gunked up.

Q: My vape pen cartridge has no airflow, what do I do?

A2: Try swapping out the atomizer and cleaning the inside of the cartridge. If you are vaping a dark juice your wicks may need to be replaced after a couple of weeks,or nfc tag uses.

After going through two answers from Reddit, we didn't find them too helpful. So here is FLOW's suggestion for when your vape pen cartridge has no airflow.

First, gather the following to clean your atomizer:

  • 4 Paper Towels
  • 1 Tooth Pick or Paper Clip

In this first step, you will need to take a paper towel and wipe the battery end of your atomizer to clean any liquid.  You will then need to take your atomizer with you and make your way to a sink.  While hanging over the sink, put the battery end of the atomizer to your lips and blow.  You are trying to blow any left over liquid out of the atomizer into the sink.  Have a glass of water or something to drink near by because you may get a bit of liquid on your lips.  Once you blow 2 to 3 times, that should be good enough.  Now take your paper towel that you used earlier and wipe the atomizer off again.

Second, breaking the gunk:

Take another paper towel and wrap a part of it around a tooth pick, paper clip, or anything small enough to fit into a tight place.  After wrapping the tooth pick, stick it in the atomizer and swipe around the outer edges to release any built up gunk that is stuck in the bottom.  Earlier when you blew through the atomizer, it only helps remove some of the loose liquid inside.  Using this tooth pick method will help release the liquid that has gotten thicker and can’t be blown out.  This should only take 10 seconds at the most, so don’t feel like you really need to take your time with it.

Third, just let it sit:

No worries, you’re almost done! Lay a paper towel somewhere flat and a place that will not be harmed, moved or anything of the sort.  Now place your your atomizer on the paper towel, battery end up.  You are doing this so that any loose left over liquid can have time to drain from the atomizer.  I usually let it drain for around an hour or two, but I’ve heard of other people letting it drain for 1 day.
